Three Georgian soldiers wounded in Afghanistan

Georgia’s Deference Ministry has reported that three Georgian soldiers have received light wounds when patrolling the perimeter near the Bagram airfield in Afghanistan.
The ministry announced that Major Papuna Khorava, Corporal Omar Beridze and Corporal Nugzar Osanadze are being treated at the military hospital of the Bagram airfield.
Their life is not at risk,” the ministry reported.
All the wounded soldiers belong to the 31st infantry battalion of the 3rd infantry brigade, participating in the NATO Resolute Support Mission (RSM).
Georgia is the largest non-NATO contributor to the RSM mission with 885 troops.
Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria has pledged further support for NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.
Georgia’s Minister of Defence Levan Izoria, who is now paying an official visit in Germany, has stressed Georgia is firm in its position to contribute to international peace and security through active participation in foreign missions in the future.
Germany’s top official to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) says his country will allocate half a million Euros to Georgia so it can build a specialist defence school that will offer professional development programmes and quality training to support institutional reforms and good governance of the security sector.
Georgia will continue to participate in a NATO mission in Afghanistan, as the Alliance has decided to extend its Resolute Support Mission beyond 2016.
A military base in Afghanistan’s north came under shelling during a visit of the Minister of Defence of Georgia Levan Izoria earlier today, with no casualties reported.
