Georgia is striving to attract more international players to film their movies in Georgia by offering filmmakers incentives to use Georgia’s diverse filming locations.

After working successfully with Indian film producers, Georgia’s cinema industry insiders and officials from the country’s Ministry of Economy and Entrepreneurship Development Agency (Enterprise Georgia) now have their eyes on the United States (US).

A group of Georgian cinema experts are in the US to present the ‘Film in Georgia’ scheme, which was a Government initiative to stimulate the local film sector by offering favourable conditions for local and international film makers.

This week the US producers learned about the benefits offered by the Georgian film program.

On a side note the ‘Film in Georgia’ scheme was part of The Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry, a five week intensive program at Lehigh University in the US.

The program would raise awareness of the Georgian film program and those keen to get involved in it to improve their leadership and entrepreneurial skills, to enhance business and industry knowledge and to demonstrate the positive impact of culture and diversity in an organisational setting.

This summer ‘Film in Georgia’ mentors are discussing ways to encouraging global cinema players to shoot their films in Georgia, and exploring the country to find new potential filming locations.

Additionally, the US experts designed a strategic plan about how to help Georgia attract more American film producers and make the country one of the main filming locations in Eastern Europe.

Georgia was already becoming known in the film industry as a place with unique landscapes. Already Indian film producers have travelled to Georgia and have started to bring their Bollywood film ideas to live by filming in Georgia.

The ‘Film in Georgia’ scheme offered international producers a cash rebate of 20-25 percent of their expenses incurred in Georgia, as a way to encourage parties to film here and support the development of the local film industry.

As well as enjoying financial benefits, the Government of Georgia aimed to create a favourable working environment for producers by removing any bureaucratic obstacles that may occur during the production process.
