Italian PM congratulates new Georgian counterpart on appointment

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, “on behalf of the Italian Government and herself” on Friday sent “heartfelt congratulations” to Irakli Kobakhidze on his appointment as the country’s new Prime Minister.

Meloni noted the partnership between Italy and Georgia “rests upon the set of common values demonstrated”, in particular, by Italy’s “unequivocal support” for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.

In her congratulatory letter, she noted that Italy would continue to reject “any act that is contrary to the fundamental principle of the international order”.

Kobakhidze was approved as the head of the Government last week by the Georgian Parliament with 84 votes in favour and 10 against.
