Petr Fiala, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, on Friday extended his “sincere congratulations” to Irakli Kobakhidze on his appointment as the country’s new Prime Minister and noted he looked forward to future cooperation with his counterpart.

In his congratulatory message, Fiala highlighted the “traditionally good and friendly relations” between the two countries and noted he was “convinced” that the long-term cooperation would continue to develop “in all areas of common interest”.

The PM also emphasised that his country “fully supports Georgia’s efforts to join the European Union” and congratulated Georgia on obtaining EU candidate status in December 2023, “as it marks a milestone for the path of your country towards the EU”.

The Georgian Parliament last week approved Kobakhidze as the head of the Government with 84 votes in favour and 10 against, following the resignation of Irakli Garibashvili as the PM on January 29.
