Derek Chollet, the Counselor of the United States Department of State,on Tuesday extended his congratulations to Irakli Kobakhidze, the new Georgian Prime Minister, on his appointment to the new role.

In his social media post, the US official affirmed his Government's “ongoing commitment” to supporting the Georgian authorities and citizens in their Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
The Georgian Parliament approved Kobakhidze, the former Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, as the new PM on February 8, following the resignation of Irakli Garibashvili in late January.
