Turkish President highlights “friendly” ties with Georgia in congratulatory letter to new Georgian PM

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish President, on Friday extended his “sincere” congratulations to Irakli Kobakhidze on his appointment as the country’s new Prime Minister. 

In his congratulatory message, Erdoğan highlighted “promising events” that had been developing in the South Caucasus region in terms of establishing “long-term peace and stability”.

The Turkish official expressed his belief the existing “friendly relations” between the two countries would be “further strengthened in all spheres”.

The Georgian Parliament on Thursday approved Kobakhidze as the head of the Government with 84 votes in favour and 10 against, following the resignation of Irakli Garibashvili as the PM on January 29.
