The French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on Wednesday “sincerely congratulated” Irakli Kobakhidze on his appointment as Georgia’s new Prime Minister, wishing him “great success” in fulfilling “this honourable mission for the benefit of the Georgian people”.

In his congratulatory message, Attal highlighted that France and Georgia were connected by the European future and confirmed the French Government’s “firm will” to further deepen the friendly relations and trust between the two nations and peoples.

Georgia has made its choice and “firmly follows on” the path to joining the European Union, the French PM noted, affirming his country’s full support to Georgia on the European integration path.

He emphasised that the bloc’s decision to grant Georgia its membership candidate status in December 2023 showed its belief that the country would “irreversibly and inclusively” fulfil the relevant recommendations on the EU path.

The French official pointed out the “special partnership” between the two countries and reiterated the French Government’s “full and unconditional” support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.

The Georgian Parliament approved Kobakhidze as the head of the Government with 84 votes in favour and 10 against on February 8, following the resignation of Irakli Garibashvili as the PM on January 29.
