Otar Shamugia, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment Protection of Georgia, on Thursday discussed prospects of deepening cooperation in agriculture and environmental protection between Georgia and Italy during his meeting with the new Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono.
The meeting also discussed boosting trade between the countries and support for Georgia on its path to European integration.
In recent years, trade relations [between Georgia and Italy] have also increased, but there is even greater potential in this direction. We are ready to further deepen our partnership with our friendly countries, because today, when Georgia is a candidate country for European Union membership, their support is especially important for the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission and the implementation of reforms”, Shamugia said.
The Minister noted his office had taken steps to improve the quality of production and introduce food safety standards in the country, as well as implement reforms in various sectors of agriculture.
I think this will increase the competitiveness and export potential of Georgian products in the European market, including Italy”, Shamugia said.
In his turn, D’Antuono praised the cooperation between the countries and noted deepening the ties was “important”.
