Georgia’s ski resort of Gudauri will be once again marked as a new location on the world map by hosting the Snowboard Cross World Cup for the first time this weekend, Irakli Burchuladze, the Director of Mountain Trails Agency said on Friday.

In his comments to the media, Burchuladze noted the delegates from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation “highly evaluated” the qualification and preparation stage of the tournament, with the athletes expressing their satisfaction. The final of the tournament will be broadcast live on leading sports media channels and other platforms, he added.

Zurab Kostava, the President of the Georgian Ski Federation, highlighted the importance of the event featuring 90 athletes from 17 countries and expressed hope that this competition would remain on the FIS calendar and the country would have the opportunity to hold the competition annually.

Uwe Beyer, the FIS race director, said the infrastructure at the location of the tournament met “high standards”.

Georgia's mountain resort development is moving forward quite quickly. [...] The track is excellent and the location is fantastic. We seem to be lucky with the weather. Overall, the organisation of the event and everything will allow us to deliver a high standard of the World Cup competition”, he stressed.

The countries competing in the event include the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Andorra, Australia, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, France, and Spain, as well as Italy, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Japan, Korea and Ukraine, MTA added.
