Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday said Germany becoming “one of the main” supporters for Georgia’s European future gave cause for “more optimism” over the country’s European Union candidacy.
Darchiashvili noted his participation in a conference on the EU enlargement in Berlin, at the invitation of his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, “showed” that Georgia had “an important role” for Germany in the bloc’s expansion.
Georgia will continue its efforts to be as close as possible to the EU’s foreign political priorities”, the FM stressed, adding the country’s compliance with the bloc was “almost 50 percent”.

The source of optimism is the efforts we have made - concrete tangible results, which were once again discussed during the EU High Representative Josep Borrell's visit to Georgia [in October], [...] The steps we have taken after the visit give us very strong signals from Brussels”, Darchiashvili emphasised.
He expressed hope the bloc would make “the only right decision” and grant Georgia the candidate status.
