Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvi on Thursday said his Government was “committed” to European integration, and noted “tangible results” and “all grounds” for Georgia to receive the European Union membership candidate status.
In his remarks at a conference on the bloc’s enlargement in Berlin, Darchiashvili noted the country was “consistently getting closer” to the EU and added “we are optimistic that Georgia will succeed on this path”.
The top Georgian diplomat stressed his Government had been implementing an agenda of “ambitious reforms in all directions for years”, and “valuable and important” work had been done in fulfilling the bloc’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status later this year.
He also noted the Georgian Government was “actively working” both in a bilateral format with the bloc and with member and partner countries, and was “ready to move to a new stage in relations” with the EU.
Darchiashvili also thanked his German counterpart for raising the topic of about Georgia's European future at the event.
