Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said the participation of Georgian Government officials in a conference on the European Union enlargement, set to be hosted by Germany’s capital city of Berlin, would be used to show the country’s partners “not only how much Georgia needs the European Union, but also the European Union itself needs Georgia”.
In her comments over the event, Botchorishvili noted the Government was a part of discussions on the “future of the European Union” alongside other member and candidate countries.
“In this process [of European integration], it is important to once again stress the message of the importance of time and timeliness - that we cannot wait in the long term for decisions from the European Union, which are necessary [for the country] to stand firmly on the path of integration”, Botchorishvili said.
It is crucial that Germany, like other member states, believes that the EU needs to prepare to host more member states. Therefore, this is the beginning of very important discussions”, the Parliament official continued.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili will on Thursday feature in the conference and address participants within a working group dedicated to the topic of the enlargement of the bloc.
