Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday declared appreciation for the support of Romanian and Slovenian governments for Georgia’s European Union membership candidate status.
Papuashvili responded to officials who on Thursday expressed their support for Georgia to be granted the bloc’s candidate status in December.
In his comments, Papuashvili highlighted the “true friendship” from Romanian and Slovenian counterparts.
“Very encouraging to see the earnest support of Romania and Slovenia to Georgia’s EU candidate status in such a pivotal moment. This is what true friendship means”, Papuashvili said in a social media message.

Daniela Gîtman, the Romanian Secretary of State for European Affairs, said her Government “strongly supported” Georgia’s EU candidacy and opening of accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova.
Tanja Fajon, the Slovenian Foreign Minister, said “we need to speed up the enlargement process in order to make the enlargement possible”.
