Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday said the 2024 Parliamentary Elections in the country would be an “object of observation”, and highlighted the importance of ensuring “a lot of engagement” to counter a “huge flood of disinformation”.

In his remarks over the matter, Papuashvili claimed the domestic opposition had “no real agenda” and was “trying to work on emotions”.

We see that the opposition has no real agenda, they are trying to work on emotions. Not only the 2024 Elections, the future elections will also be an object of constant observation, since the democratic development of the country is one of the important [elements] of the Copenhagen criteria, by which the country should ultimately join the European Union”, he continued.

The chief Georgian legislator added the country’s European integration process was an “ongoing process” and it would “take years” to join the bloc, further pointing out that “all these issues will always be on the agenda”.
