Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday said citizens of the country would be making a choice “between war and peace” in the 2024 general elections in October.

Papuashvili claimed there was “no doubt” the ruling Georgian Dream party was “winning” the elections, but added it was “important” for the party to receive a constitutional majority.

It is important for the Georgian people to finally make their voice heard by everyone inside and outside the country — by all the radicals — that they will not allow the reconstruction of Mikheil Saakashvili's [former United National Movement] regime, and therefore it is important to stand up and give the constitutional majority to the Georgian Dream”, Papuashvili said.

The official added it was “important for Georgia to have peace and not war”, and “economic progress and not an economic disaster”, adding voting for the opposition would mean “economic catastrophe and war” in the country.

The parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held on October 26.
