Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said a delegation from the country would highlight Tbilisi’s “significant” efforts to back Ukraine amid the ongoing war and the Government’s work to implement the conditions for the country’s EU candidacy later this year at the ongoing Francophonie Parliamentary Assembly of Europe in Athens.
Speaking to the press from the forum representing 88 national and regional parliaments to discuss political questions and exchange views, the lawmaker stressed the country’s support for Ukraine had been ‘frequently underestimated” by domestic opponents of the Georgian Dream Government, which she said had “affected” people's opinions over the aid.
Georgia has ensured quite important support of Ukraine [amid the ongoing conflict], and the Georgian delegation will use the platform to inform colleagues about the efforts”, Botchorishvili said.
She noted the MPs in the delegation would also use the event to inform foreign lawmakers about the Government's work to implement the 12-point conditions outlined by the European Union last year for granting Georgia its candidate status in December.
We will use the platform to tell our colleagues how important it is for both Georgia and the EU for Georgia to receive the status”, Botchorishvili said.
The forum kicked off on Sunday and is set to close on Tuesday.
