Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday said in a social media message Georgia was ranked 48th out of 142 countries, and “ahead of all European Union candidate countries”, in the latest Rule of Law Index by the World Justice Project.
Papuashvili also said the Index placed the country ahead of two EU and five NATO member states.
Only a few days before the European Commission’s annual report [on Georgia’s fulfilment of conditions for receiving the EU membership candidate status], yet another facts-based evidence of Georgia’s leadership in the wider region has just emerged [...] EU candidate status should be an official confirmation of these undeniable facts”, he posted.
The Parliament official alleged unspecified attempts to “challenge” Georgia’s “achievements” in rule of law and human rights “by attempting to alter perceptions” but added the efforts were “in vain”.
