Georgian Deputy Finance Minister Mikheil Dundua on Monday said Georgia’s ranking in the latest Global Competitiveness Report, which placed the country in 11th place in Europe in corruption control, proved the country was “developing in the right direction”.

“Not only economic growth, but important components of development have been improved”, Dundua said, adding “important criteria” had led to the position in the ranking.

"The control of corruption in important areas such as honest distribution of state funds, freedom from illegal payments [...] in courts, state contracts was evaluated. There is supremacy in [...] judicial independence, freedom from organised crime, property rights, state regulations in areas such as freedom from non-tariff nets and leniency of government regulations”, he added.

Revaz Javelidze, the Head of the Georgian Government Administration, on Monday said the country’s ranking placed it ahead of 25 European Union and NATO member countries, and five member states of the Big Seven.
