Georgia is the number one performer among the European Union candidate countries, leading from the rule of law to economic freedom, the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on Wednesday.
In his social media post, Papuashvili noted that “in addition to vibrant democracy, effectively functioning institutions and solid legal framework”, Georgia was “quickly catching up” with economic indicators.

The Parliament Speaker added Georgia was ranked fourth among nine candidate countries in gross domestic product per capita.

The European Council granted Georgia the EU membership candidate status on December 14, after the country officially applied for bloc membership on March 3, 2022, shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
