The national football team of Georgia defeated Thailand with a record score of 8:0 in a friendly match at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on Thursday.

The Georgian team opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Zuriko Davitashvili, before Luka Lochoshvili scored his debut goal for the squad.

The match was particularly successful for Giorgi Mikautadze, who scored in the 24th minute before completing a hat-trick to become the second player in the history of the national team after Shota Arveladze to score three goals in the first half of a match.

The final goal of the first half was recorded by Davitashvili in the 44th minute, giving a 6:0 lead to the hosts.

With another goal in the second half, Mikautadze also became the first player in the history of the team to score four goals in one match.

Head coach Willy Sagnol also sent on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the winger of the Italian club Napoli, to contribute to the game in the second half, with the midfielder finding the net for the final 8:0 score.

The result broke the previous record of the team, set against Armenia in a 1997 friendly that ended 7:0.

The team will face Cyprus for a Euro 2024 qualifier in Tbilisi on Saturday.
