Georgian PM stressed “reliable, mutually beneficial centuries-old friendship” with Germany at country’s Unity Day reception

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday highlighted the “reliable and mutually beneficial, centuries-old friendship” with Germany in his address at the reception held on the occasion of the German Unity Day.

Garibashvili congratulated the German people on “this remarkable day” and said the reunification of “this great country [Germany] has become a source of inspiration” not only for Germans but for all, noting the Unity Day “takes on even greater significance” amid challenges facing Europe.

Today, more than ever, the role of the Federal Republic of Germany is crucial for bringing peace and stability on our continent”, the PM stressed.

The Head of the Government said the “centuries-old friendship and multidimensional cooperation” with Germany, based on common values, “have grown even closer and reached unprecedented dynamics in recent times”.

He noted the high-level visits and meetings between the countries' officials were a “true and tangible testament of this growing connection”, adding it demonstrated Germany’s “support and active involvement” with Georgia.

 

The PM also said Germany’s “unwavering support and commitment” to upholding Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict were “deeply appreciated”.

Germany's substantial involvement in the EU Monitoring Mission, where it consistently plays a leading role, is highly appreciated”, he noted.

Garibashvili emphasised that Germany was “one of the largest” donors for Georgia and said the country’s assistance played an important role in Georgia’s development and democratic transformation. “We look forward to continuing cooperation to advance our ambitious reform agenda”, the PM added.

Germany, as one of the leading trade and economic partners of Georgia, was also highlighted by the PM, saying the “successful participation” of Georgia as the host country in the ITB Berlin would give “an additional stimulus” to the implementation of new economic projects with German investments, as well as boost tourist flows between the two states.

The event, marking German Unity Day, was also addressed by Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to Georgia and Anna Lührmann, the State Minister at the Federal Foreign Office in the Scholz cabinet.
