The existing relations between Georgia and Germany and future prospects of cooperation, as well as Georgia’s European Union integration, were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Bärbel Bas, the President of the German Bundestag, who is on an official visit to the country.

The progress achieved by Georgia on its EU integration path, including the ongoing reforms implemented upon the recommendations outlined by the bloc for granting its membership candidate status to the country, was emphasised at the meeting.

The sides highlighted Germany's contribution to the institutional and socio-economic transformation of Georgia, and it was also noted that Georgia appreciated Germany’s “strong support” for the country's EU membership, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili reaffirmed Georgia’s “unwavering” commitment to European integration, with the efforts made by the Georgian Government to fulfil the EU priorities emphasised at the meeting.

The Head of the Government thanked the German Bundestag President for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, as well as the non-recognition policy towards the country’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions.

The importance of Germany's participation in the European Union Monitoring Mission, as well as in the implementation of the NATO-Georgia Essential Package, including “significant” expert and financial involvement, was also stressed at the meeting.
