Anna Lührmann, the German Minister of State for Europe, on Tuesday said she was looking forward to the day when “Georgia becomes a member of the European Union”.

In her speech at a reception dedicated to the German Unity Day, the visiting official noted the country could “always count on” Germany’s support.

The official stressed the EU integration process involved implementing “strict criteria”, and urged the country’s stakeholders to work “tirelessly” on the necessary reforms in order to give the European Commission a “good basis” to “positively” assess Georgia's progress in the next report.

Lührmann outlined judiciary, media and electoral reform among the tasks up to the Government, but noted that “it's also a job to be done together, as a community, as a country, across party lines”.
