Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday in his address at the reception held on the occasion of the German Unity Day said he was confident the European Union would recognise Georgia’s advancements and geopolitical importance and would make “another historic decision” by granting the country its candidate membership status.
Garibashvili noted the recognition of Georgia's European perspective in June 2022 added “a new impetus” to the country's relations with Germany and other EU member states, stressing since then, Georgia “has diligently worked” to meet the 12 recommendations outlined by the EU to grant the candidate status to the country.
We hope that the noticeable progress on the Euro integration path will be acknowledged accordingly”, the Head of the Government said.
The PM stressed Germany’s “unwavering support” for Georgia’s European aspirations and European choice - reflecting the “resolute will” of Georgian people - was “deeply appreciated”, adding the decision to grant Georgia the candidate status would “firmly connect” the country with Germany and the EU.
