Regional security matters, the ongoing war in Ukraine and its consequences for Georgia, and the situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between Irakli Beraia, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Defence and Security Committee, and Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, the Chair of the Defence Committee of the German Bundestag.

The meeting came as part of a German visit of a Georgian Parliamentary delegation, which involves MPs Khatia Tsilosani and Alexander Elisashvili, the Georgian Parliament press office said.

The sides reviewed Georgia’s progress in its Euro-Atlantic integration process and defence cooperation between the two countries.

Germany is our valuable partner and a friend country, and our cooperation is of particular significance. The support of Germany is of high value in the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia and the enhancement of our national defence capacity”, Beraia said.

Georgian MPs thanked Strack-Zimmermann for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its European Union and NATO integration aspirations.
