Irakli Beraia, the Chair of the Defence and Security Committee in the Georgian Parliament, on Thursday said Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration was not only in the interests of the country, but also of the “Euro-Atlantic space as a whole”.
A Georgian Parliamentary delegation on Thursday met with the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the alliance's military and political leadership, at the bloc’s Brussels headquarters.
Our NATO partners in Brussels understand very well the importance of Georgia joining NATO, and everyone emphasises that Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration is in the security interests not only of Georgia, but also of the alliance and the Euro-Atlantic space as a whole”, Beraia said.
The Parliament official also noted the meetings held at the headquarters had focused on regional security matters, in particular the ongoing war in Ukraine and its impact on the security of both Georgia and the Black Sea region.
We talked about the progress that Georgia has achieved on the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and we also talked about the steps that should be taken to speed up the political decision on Georgia's NATO integration. This is important and urgently needed in light of the deteriorating security environment in the region”, Beraia noted.
