NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday said NATO allies were providing support to Georgia and “working closely” with their Georgian partners.

In his remarks at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum, Stoltenberg noted the alliance needed to strengthen “political partnership, cooperation and dialogue” with those countries that are “vulnerable to Russian interference”, naming Georgia among them.

Russia is already controlling parts of Georgia’s territory. But it’s also about capacity building, training and different types of support. NATO allies provide support to Georgia and we are working closely with our Georgian partners”, he said.

“Allies have agreed to do more, especially in the light of Russia’s brutal attack on Ukraine. It highlights the importance of proactively working with a country like Georgia”, Stoltenberg added.

The leader of the bloc also underlined the importance of implementing “necessary reforms” by the Georgian government, pointing out the “more Georgia is able to address the concerns, [the] easier to mobilise necessary support from NATO allies”.
