Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said 5,000 top students across the country would receive a doubled $114 scholarship from the state, in a boost of both the amount and qualified recipients.
Garibashvili said the International Education Centre, providing scholarships to Georgian citizens interested in studying abroad, had ensured over 1,000 “excellent students” joining “best universities” abroad “completely free of charge”.
For comparison, I would also like to note that representatives of the former Government, including the former President, financed their own children from the budget and financed their own family members from the budget - they financed their studies, this is the difference [with the current Government]”, he said.
The PM also said the initiative was to encourage and appreciate “talented, excellent” students with high academic performance, and added the Government would “certainly strengthen” the project.
