Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday said ₾42 million ($15.64mln) had been spent to finance studies of up to 1,200 “successful students” abroad over the past eight years.
Garibashvili made the comment at a meeting with graduates of the Georgian-based International Education Centre, formed in 2014 following his initiative to fund study costs of Georgian citizens at leading international universities.
Of course, this project should continue, and we are already talking about it with the new Minister of Education, who has very good visions”, he told the meeting.
The main idea is to create human capital in the country, and most importantly, we must use this human capital for our country, to strengthen our country. We are always ready to help, support our young, excellent students”, Garibashvili added.
The Centre said it had awarded over 1,250 scholarships between 2014-2022 to Georgian citizens looking to study abroad.
