The Government of Georgia on Monday announced that starting next year, children turning six before December 1 would be able to register for first grade classes, while those reaching the age before December 31 would be able to join schools starting in 2025.

The decision follows requests by parents for a “review of the regulations for age qualifications for first-graders” in the country, the Government Administration said.

Parents of qualifying children will be able to choose between continued preschool care and education services or register their children as first-graders.

The 2025 change will also allow parents to choose if their children will enter schools while turning six until December 31 of an ongoing year.
