$382mln infrastructure renovation programme launched in 11 locations of Georgia

The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia on Thursday announced the launch of a ₾1 billion ($382mln), five-year programme for renovation and development of infrastructure in 11 locations across the country.

Venues and monuments in cities and towns of Borjomi, Bakuriani, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Telavi, Zugdidi, Batumi, Mtskheta, Stepantsminda, Mestia and Kazbegi will go under works as part of the programme initiated by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

The following areas will be renovated as part of the programme:

  • Central park and historical centre of the central-western city of Borjomi
  • Central park and new recreational area at Tsivi Lake in the western spa resort of Tskaltubo
  • New boulevard in the western city of Zugdidi
  • Historical part, botanical garden and Lado Meskhishvili Theatre in the western city of Kutaisi
  • Batoni Castle and its surrounding area, as well as Vazha-Pshavela Drama Theatre in the eastern city of Telavi
  • Historical part in the Black Sea city of Batumi 
  • Historical Areas in Kazbegi, Bakuriani and Mestia municipalities 

A similar programme for urban development was launched two years ago and covered 63 municipalities in Georgia that had their centres upgraded. The total cost of the programme was ₾500 million ($191.22mln).
