The Roads Department of Georgia has become a member of the World Road Association at the World Road Congress, an event aimed at discussing trends and challenges of road infrastructure in Prague this week, the Infrastructure Ministry said on Wednesday.
As part of his official visit to Prague, Georgian Infrastructure Minister Irakli Karseladze met with Nazir Alli, the President of the Association, on Wednesday.
Development and progress of the international highways passing through Georgia, as well as the country’s short and long-term plans for the development of the road infrastructure were discussed in a meeting between the parties.
Opportunities to activate relations between the Roads Department and the Association was also highlighted at the meeting, with Karseladze noting the Department would “be actively involved” in the work of the body’s committees and “various directions”.
As part of his participation in the Congress, Karseladze on Tuesday had an opportunity to provide information on ongoing and implemented projects in Georgia and highlighted the importance of the Middle Corridor – a transportation route network connecting Central Asia and Europe.
The Congress, which seeks to share experience in road infrastructure and road transport, is hosted every four years in a member country, with this year’s event running between Monday and Friday in Prague.
