Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Belgian counterpart Hadja Lahbib on Wednesday signed a memorandum on cooperation to strengthen “high-level” political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The Ministry said the document, signed during the ongoing official visit of the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Brussels, would contribute to “regular political consultations” on issues related to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration between the two countries.

It also aims to advance the growth of economic diplomacy while offering a chance to focus on enhancing the relationships in the areas of trade, tourism and investment, the Ministry added.
The state body also said the memorandum recognised the “historic significance” of the European perspective, granted to Georgia by the European Council last year, and emphasised the need to “fully realise” the potential of the Association Agreement signed between the country and the European Union in 2014.
The memorandum also supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the decision made at the 2008 Summit of NATO that said the country would eventually join the alliance.
