The bi-weekly French rugby newspaper Midi Olympique on Monday named Davit Niniashvili, a full-back of the Georgian national team and winger for Lyon OU, as the rookie of the past season and awarded him the Midi Olympique Oscar prize.
Niniashvili became the second Georgian player after Mamuka Gorgodze, who was named as the best foreign player of the 2013 season, to receive the award.
“Today, March 27, Davit Niniashvili was awarded for his enormous talent. [...] He is another phenomenal rugby player that the Midi Olympic wanted to reward”, the publication said.
“Niniashvili is constantly developing, which was also seen in his team playing. His achievements in Lyon should also be taken into account”, it added.
The Georgian was awarded at the 70th anniversary ceremony for the Midi Olympics prize, hosted at the Gerlan Stadium in Lyon.
