Georgia's place is in the European Union and Poland supports the country on its path to European integration, Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday during his meeting with Georgian counterpart.

In the meeting hosted in Georgia’s Black Sea coast city of Batumi, Morawiecki noted the Russian aggression in Georgia in 2008 was “still felt”, with the conflict meaning Georgian citizens were best-placed to understand the plight of Ukrainians amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.

Who will understand Ukraine better than Georgians, since [the regions of] Abkhazia and South Ossetia - this is the 20 percent [of the Georgian territory] currently occupied [by the Russian forces],” he noted.

The aggression that took place in Georgia in 2008 is still felt. Therefore, Poland still supports Georgia on its path to European integration and will continue to do so. We are convinced that every country is entitled to choose the path it wants. Therefore, I would like to point out that Georgia's place is in the European Union,” Morawiecki said.
