Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held a farewell meeting with Li Yan, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral relations between the two states, and the trade-economic and investment ties in particular. Garibashvili said China was among Georgia’s top five trading partners, and noted the free trade agreement signed in 2017 had further increased trade between the two countries.

Yan pointed to the importance of strengthening ties between China and Georgia, noting the direct flights operating between the countries had facilitated tourism.

The Georgian PM thanked the Chinese Government for its assistance, including through efforts to deliver Covid-19 vaccines to Georgia last year, while the Chinese diplomat reiterated “firm support” for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Li Yan was appointed the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia in 2019.
