Georgia’s “unprecedented” economic growth this year should be maintained and increased, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at the Government meeting on Monday.
The Government head said the 18 percent growth observed in January was an “unprecedented” figure both in the South Caucasus and in Europe, also pointing to data showing 47.6 percent increase in exports of locally produced goods, which totalled $331.3 million, as well as rising trends in tourism.
This pace should not be slowed down, on the contrary, we should maintain and increase it even more,” the PM told his team.
Garibashvili also highlighted an “active launch” of various projects and programmes aimed for maintaining growth in the country in the near future, including the recent start of the Government’s new public employment programme, expected to involve 100,000 citizens in 2022.
The PM further stressed the importance of the government’s “communication with the business,” saying the country’s Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili and Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili “are actively involved” in this direction.
The estimated real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Georgia increased by 18 percent in January 2022 year-on-year with a total of 3,235 new businesses registered in the reporting period, a 14.1 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
