Georgia has exported locally produced goods worth $331.3 million in January 2022, which is 47.6 percent higher year-on-year, the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) show.
Geostat said local exports in the country had accounted for 69.9 percent of total exports in the reporting period, amounting to $231.5 million, 39.1 percent higher compared to January 2021.

The largest increase in January 2022 was recorded in the export of nitrogenous fertilisers with 195.1 percent increase and in the export of gold which totalled $6.7 million, amounting to 153.1 percent increase year-on-year.
Export of hazelnuts and other nuts totalled $7.5 million in January 2022, which is seven percent higher year-on-year.
Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili stressed the importance of local production calling it the “main employer” in the country, adding “behind each increased percentage or number of exports are many people employed in Georgian enterprises.” He further noted the exports in Georgia “significantly” increased totalling 39 percent, highlighting “this is a net export, which actually generates additional value in Georgia.”
