Georgia has exported locally produced goods worth $1.58 billion between January-April, which is a 32.8 percent increase year-on-year, preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia show.
Geostat said local exports in the country had accounted for 76.1 percent of total exports in the reporting period, amounting to $1.27 billion, 37.1 percent higher compared to the same period of 2021.
Georgia’s top trading partners were:
- China - $277.2 million
- Russia - $138.3 million
- Bulgaria -$128.8 million
The five largest domestic export goods of Georgia are as follows:
- Copper ores and concentrates - $363.3 million (30.1% of total exports)
- Ferro-alloys - $195.4 million (16.2%)
- Nitrogenous fertilizers - $128.3 million (10.6%)
- Wine from fresh grapes - $60.3 million (+5%)
- Natural or artificial mineral and carbonated waters - $38.3 million (3.2 %)
Vakhtang Tsintsadze, the Head of the Economic Analysis and Reforms Department at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, said stable growth of domestic exports "clearly indicates" growth of local production and "improved competitiveness".
"Enhancing local production is a top priority of our economic policy, which in turn will help create new jobs and increase the income of the population", Tsintsadze said.
Georgia is dependent on import of dairy products “to some extent”, and enterprises in the country have no resources to export such goods on various markets, Georgian Agriculture Minister Otar Shamugia said on Wednesday.
