The first batch of Georgian snails has been exported from Georgia to Italy, with the shipment including up to three tonnes of the product, the Georgian National Food Agency announced on Friday.
The export follows the addition of Georgia to the list of countries allowed to export snails to the European Union market in December.
In comments on the development, the state body said a “significant part” of the measures taken by the country in market diversification was focused on gaining access for Georgian products to the European market.
The export to the EU market follows measures taken by the Georgian National Food Agency under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement signed between Georgia and the EU in 2014, as part of the Association Agreement between the sides.
