Georgian defence minister Juansher Burchuladze on Tuesday said Georgian authorities were “well aware” of threats facing the country and steps that could be required in response to them.

In an interview with the Georgian public broadcaster, Burchuladze spoke about the vision of the ministry and its conceptual documents detailing security threats and the changing environment of the region.

He noted three main documents had been developed in the ministry together with international partners, one of them being responsible for the “long-term strategy” and containing the vision of the defence agency until 2030.

This is how the changing threats and environment we have can be regulated. We have also faced this risk [included in the document], and our strategy is based on understanding this. We have also exchanged this information [with partners]”, he told the channel.

“Ukraine also had a strategy built around exactly this threat”, the minister noted without further specifics, adding “we have understood this well and we have also understood the steps that can be taken at a particular moment”.

Burchuladze also reviewed the conduct of conventional and non-conventional war on the backdrop of current challenges and said the main focus in the strategy of the ministry was put on the concept of “total defence”.
