A total of ₾290 million ($102mln) will be spent on increasing salary for police officers, military and security personnel in Georgia by 20 percent next year, prime minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Friday in a presentation of plans for the next year's budget at the government meeting.

He said funding for the ministries of defence and internal affairs as well as the security service would be increased by ₾490 million ($173mln).

The PM noted public servant salaries had been raised by 10 percent in January, adding a similar increase would again be introduced in January 2023. “[T]his will continue in the following years as well", Garibashvili said.

He also confirmed construction of residential blocks, “in order to improve living conditions for police officers and servicemembers”, was also planned for next year.

Garibashvili said that more than 1,000 servicemembers would receive apartments in the Army City area, which is set to be completed “in several months’ time", while the construction of the Police Officer City - designed for more than 1,000 officers - would start in a few weeks.
