Chronic illness medication financing to ramp up by $10.68mln

Georgian health minister Zurab Azarashvili on Monday said financing of medications against chronic illnesses would be increased by ₾30 million ($10.68mln) in the 2023 state budget.

He also said the list of subsidised drugs would be expanded as part of the move.

We will implement reference pricing for medications beginning in January. In the first stage, it will apply to individuals with chronic and oncological conditions. In doing so, ₾30 million will be allocated following the implementation of reference pricing", Azarashvili said.

Last month, Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili announced state budget allocations for healthcare and social security programmes would be increasing by ₾770 million ($274mln).
