The strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey and the security environment in the Black Sea region were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The officials noted that the partnership between the countries was “successfully” developing in many directions and acquired a “special importance” in terms of deepening the relations and regional cooperation, the Georgian foreign office said.
Darchiashvili and Çavuşoğlu expressed their readiness to work “actively” in the future in terms of conducting high-level bilateral visits, and in this regard the conversation touched upon the visit of the Turkish President to Georgia.
The meeting also focused on the priority areas of cooperation, including trade and economic ties and its great potential for further development with the officials emphasising the increased trade turnover between Turkey and Georgia.
Darchiashvili thanked his Turkish counterpart for Turkey's “strong” support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for Turkey's “strong” position regarding Georgia's foreign policy priorities.
Darchiashvili and Çavuşoğlu also reviewed the security environment in the Black Sea region and Turkey's “efforts” to ensure peace and stability in the region.
The Turkish top diplomat welcomed the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers in Tbilisi and expressed his hope that Georgia would play a “positive role” in the future in this process and in ensuring peace in the region.
