Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday discussed the country’s European perspective with the European Council President Charles Michel, with the meeting coming at the NATO Summit in Madrid.
Garibashvili called the Council’s granting of the European perspective to Georgia a “historic decision” that confirmed the country’s future in the European Union, the Government Administration said.
The head of the Government also noted his team would ensure “active work” to implement the recommendations of the European Commission for receiving the EU membership candidate status, and emphasised European integration was not only a government choice but also a decision of Georgian citizens.
"Reiterated our Gov’s commitment to work tirelessly to meet all priorities outlined by the European Commission", Garibashvili tweeted following the meeting.

The PM also thanked Michel for his personal efforts on the path of Georgia’s European integration, and for supporting the European perspective for the country.
The conversation also focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine and the resulting deteriorating security environment in the Eastern European region, with Garibashvili reiterating “solidarity and unwavering support” of his Government and Georgian citizens for Ukraine.
