Parliament Defence and Security Committee Chair: “important” that NATO Summit involving new measures of support for Georgia

It is important that this week’s NATO Summit is dedicated to new measures of support for Georgia, Irakli Beraia, the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Defence and Security, said on Tuesday.

Beraia noted the Summit was set to focus on five main issues with its agenda and “shape the architecture” of international security over the coming years. He emphasised an “important spot” on the event’s agenda was devoted to new measures of support for Georgia.

The Summit will open in Madrid on Tuesday at 5:20pm Tbilisi time following a joint press conference involving the Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg  and Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez.

Stoltenberg has announced the alliance’s approval of “new packages of support” for Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova, with specific details yet to be confirmed. 

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili will hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Summit.
