Turkey’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic aspirations is “firm”, Irakli Beraia, the Chair of the Defence and Security Committee in the Georgian Parliament said on Friday following meetings of Georgian lawmakers and their Turkish counterparts in Ankara.
Following meetings with colleagues from committees of Security and Intelligence, Defence and Internal Affairs of the Turkish Parliament, Beraia said the discussions had reviewed prospects for a further strengthening of bilateral ties and security challenges on the background of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

He stressed the “smooth cooperation” between the two countries had gained “particular importance” amid the war, with the prospect for “successful implementation” of transport and energy projects targeted for diversifying Europe’s energy security.

The projects will also serve to ensure economic development of the South Caucasus region and “most importantly” the “complete security of the Black Sea region and the Euro-Atlantic space”, he added.
The visiting Georgian delegation is composed of six MPs from both the ruling party and the opposition.
