201 schools switch to remote learning due to Covid-19 surge in Georgia

A total of 201 schools throughout Georgia have switched to remote learning due to Covid-19 surge in the country, the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science reported.

The ministry noted that safety measures were taken in order to prevent the internal transmission of the virus.

125 teachers who are in risk groups have requested to switch to online teaching. Coronavirus was reported among 2.7% of the teachers and 0.9% of the students last week. As of now, 73.6% of the teachers and the school administration representatives are vaccinated, the ministry wrote.

Public and private schools in Georgia resumed in-person studies following winter holidays on January 17.

The country has reported 18,274 new cases of coronavirus, 8,400 recoveries and 41 deaths in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate stands at 21.56%.
