The long-standing partnership between Georgia and Germany, the latter’s role in Georgia's democratic and economic development and aspirations for European and Euro-Atlantic integration were discussed by Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock on Friday.
The two ministers discussed the topics at a Council of Europe ministerial meeting, with the German official expressing her support for Georgia's European aspirations and the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministers also raised the subject of the formal applications for European Union membership, submitted by the Associated Trio states of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, stressing the need for continued support from the EU and partner countries during the current “crucial time” for responding to the challenges facing them.

Particular challenges facing Georgia, related to the security environment in the Black Sea region as a result of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the occupation of Georgian territories by Russia, were also reviewed.
Discussing questions of bilateral relations, the sides noted the “excellent” cooperation between their countries in all fields, as well as opportunities for deepening the relations.
