Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Tuesday said his Government expected the country to receive the “result we deserve” following discussions in Brussels on the European Union membership questionnaire submitted by Georgia to EU authorities.
Darchiashvili called the visit of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to Brussels "timely" in the light of the wait for the review of the questionnaire by European bodies.
Georgia expects that the country's efforts and reforms will be properly reflected in the decision [on membership bid]. Our expectation is that Georgia will get the result we deserve," said Darchiashvili, who is also part of the Governmental delegation in Brussels.
PM Garibashvili said earlier he would hold meetings as part of his ongoing Brussels visit to discuss Georgia's prospects of gaining EU candidate status as well as “tangible mechanisms” for deepening the country’s integration with the Union. Photo: Gov't of Georgia.
The FM also said Garibashvili's meetings with the presidents of the European Council and European Parliament "were very positive and timely". He added Charles Michel, the EC President, supported Georgia's European integration, while Roberta Metsola, the President of the European legislative body, "speaks very openly about the European perspective of all three countries," in reference to the Associated Trio states of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, who submitted formal applications for membership earlier this year.
Darchiashvili started his visit to Brussels on Monday, while Garibashvili joined him today. The Government head announced earlier he would hold meetings as part of his ongoing Brussels visit to discuss Georgia's prospects of gaining EU candidate status as well as “tangible mechanisms” for deepening the country’s integration with the Union.
